Bulletin Post: 01

[ There was a new paper pinned to the bulletin board. The handwriting was very nice and cursive too. ]

Idle hands make fretful minds and who among us really wants to sit still? [Not him, that's for sure. He is losing his mind not having something to do.]

I am offering up my services to anyone who may be seeking help, from the small requests to the large ones. I'm fast; I'm strong; I can fly as well. Do you need something lifted or a book from a high shelf? I'll help with perfect precision.

If there's anyone you can count on to help, you can count on me, Nice. Have no fear~☆

and thus, consequences have been earned

Who: Konrad Curze and the Assistants
What: Immediately following the attack on Kaiisteron
When: Sometime after 'night', several days before the Story
Where: The Unfinished Library - Assistant's Office
Content warnings: To be added!

Most people who get into a fight will end up triggering the Safety Zone mechanism. But for a one-shot hit of this magnitude, capable of instantly killing the target, a different approach must be taken entirely.

Instead of the yacht that others - including Konrad - may have experienced for other damages or attacks, he will now find himself suddenly sitting in an uncomfortable chair in a book-filled office. He will find that his powers, all of them, have been abruptly dampened. Any attempt to use them will feel like the ability is just out of reach, and he will find his strength and energy feeling -- dulled. Konrad will find that if he tries to approach the desk, he will not make it more than one step away from the chair. No matter how fast he runs, or how far he reaches; the desk will remain the exact distance from him that it currently is.

The air smells of aged paper and - faintly - the smell of glue, emanating from a few carefully clamped annals nearby. A large book sits open on the pristine desk, and behind it - a young man, human in appearance, sitting straight-backed and rigid. He looks at Konrad with disapproval in his eyes.

(To the side, lingering just out of direct view, is a second young man. Again, human in appearance; but more relaxed than the guy behind the desk, and apparently content to stay out of the spotlight for now.)

"Good evening, Konrad." The man behind the desk says curtly. His voice is polished, his words precisely enunciated and crisp. Looking like he'd rather not, but beholden to his manners anyway, he flatly makes an offer of: "Tea?"

Anima, Aura, Breath and Psyche: Mundane Magic Signup

(A note appears on the bulletin board, in neatly handwritten print:)

To my fellow Editors:

It is a fact of supreme importance to me that I am still capable of the feats of evocation that I became capable of on Mundus. I am both curious to know if others could learn them as I did, and know more than one person for whom it would be of practical use in self defense and the protection of others.

For these reasons, I am offering to teach the practice of arcane magic as it is taught on Mundus to anyone capable of using it with full awareness of the risks.

I would like to meet a week from tomorrow, on the 16th, in the Changing Room - hopefully as a garden. If you are interested, sign below. If you have any questions, leave them.

Sincerely yours,

- Hikaru Aozora

late night reading

Who: Konrad Curze, Kaiisteron, later on: you?
What: Making Mistakes
When: sometime after 'night', it's obligatory (several days before Storytime)
Where: Somewhere in the Stacks, it's a big library. Probably time-out later. Maybe worse places.
Content warnings: Violence, daemons, primarchs, gratuitous bodily harm, the problems with uncontrolled powers, making a mess.

And things have been going so well, too. )

one

[ A neatly typed sheet of paper. ]
This is X. Mrs. Harker has already suggested that we share information concerning our stay here and the changes that we've noticed. I have suggested that once we have gathered enough information we can hold a meeting to discuss our findings and figure out a few solutions to some of the issues we're facing.

[ Like the randomness of food, or the rather strange lack of patterns for the Stacks. ]

But first, due to the nature of where I'm from, I have what you can call an understanding of extraordinary abilities granted through outside forces. I've noticed a change in my own capabilities, and I would like to know if others have noticed their own changes as well.

You don't have to tell us what those changes are. All I want to know if any one else has noticed that they have gained a new talent that allows more control inside the Library.

INFO POST - TAKE A LOAD OFF (BETA STORY)

Take a Load Off (Beta Story)
November 11 - December 11
Log 1: 11/11
Log 2: 11/28
Return to the Library: 12/12

It is the year 2019, and for humans, life just… keeps going on. You wake up. You go to work, you work a lot, you come home. You do the tasks needed to keep your house running and yourself functional, you sleep for less time than you should, and you get up and do it again. There are breaks in the routine, days off, vacations for some; but at the core it never changes. As the years go on, the more worn down the average person gets.

Enter the Interstellar Mindfulness & Wellness Group. Normally serving the various species and worlds of the Coalition, a recent survey into the Andromeda Galaxy revealed the planet "Earth" and the alarming state of the “humans” upon it. The state of general wellness, especially in the psychological realm, is concerningly below targets. Technically, the Group are not allowed to do anything about it. Technically, they are not permitted to be the first point of contact in any new civilization. But surely, if no one notices that they’re there, it should be fine, right? There’s no way they can just sit back and watch these creatures work themselves to death!

And so, a small, mostly novice, contingent of the Group takes a ship to Earth. Staffed with professionals of various stripes, with a definitely brilliant idea: bring some humans up to their fully equipped ship, for rest and relaxation and whatever short-term therapies they might require! As well as sending some staff down to the planet disguised as those humans to administer more care on-site, as it were, to the humans left behind.

It’s only after arriving above Woodhurst, a small human settlement, that they realize there are two main flaws in this plan. One, some of the humans seem very resistant to the idea of taking care of themselves, even when it’s explained that all those things they’re worrying about are being taken care of. Two, those staff members sent down to replace them are all horrible at acting and have no idea how to behave like the people they’re meant to be replacing.

It’s clear they can’t stay long, but maybe they can still do some good while they’re here. What’s the worst that could happen?

HOW THIS WORKS
Please read the information in the comments below. You will decide if your character is a Reader or Actor in this Story. If they are an Actor, you will build their AU based on the information in the comments.

Actors are fully immersed in the AU. This is their world, and they have been here the whole time. Any powers the Actor has in the Library are absolutely not a thing in the Story. Actors who are Aliens during the Story will have free use of their respective Alien Skills during the Story. After the Story, if you want to keep the skill, you will need to claim it as part of your AC skill redemption. After the Story, characters will remember their time as an Actor; but while they are an Actor, they will have no memory of the Library or their actual selves.

Readers will be dropped into Woodhurst as visitors, some of whom can be picked up onto the ship and others left behind. Readers are aware that they are in a Story and remember the Library and the people in it, including the ones who don't remember them anymore (whoops!). If you don't want to/can't think of an AU, or you just think it would be hilarious to have your character as themselves in this setting, this is the option for you.

Once you've got some thoughts on where you want to go with this, or even if you're just spitballing ideas, put up a comment with your plan! Let others bounce off your ideas and see what comes out of it.

"Guide for Perplexed Editors"

Okay so that's what Hikaru called it and tbh Mina likes it she'll probably run with that!

Anyway, I have written up a start of what Mina would use for this guide, it is here for anyone who wants to peruse it. If folks want to comment there with their own contributions (you definitely don't have to write it up if you don't want to, we can handwave anything), feel free! Mina will make sure everything contributed gets typed up into a single manuscript (she'll make at least three copies) so that anyone who wants to take a look at everything they've learned so far can do so!

Also if you want to thread out meeting with Mina to help put this together, or whatever, by all means I'm willing to do that too!

Hit me up at [plurk.com profile] frodabaggins or frodab on discord if you have any questions, suggestions, etc!

INTRODUCING: MAD SKILZ

Hello everybody! First I want to thank everyone so much for jumping into the game, and already making it a blast! We are super excited to share what we've got planned with you and are loving every ridiculous question and Assistant conversation and everything else so far.

Since this is the Beta, we are trickling in things bit by bit, and we have decided that we have enough basic skills set up that we are releasing a beginning list! You can find them at the skill page here. Please let us know if anything is unclear; we are very open to feedback!

Additionally, as both a thank you to everyone's enthusiasm and as a way of testing out how the skills work in game, everyone who is both in beta and participated on the TDM gets to take (1) 100-level skill that doesn't require a pre-req for FREE. Learn how to find things! Get made stuff to stick around! Type into a journal somehow!!

Thank you all again, and we hope you enjoy!

Bulletin Post #1

[ Pinned to the bulletin board in the lobby is a neatly handwritten note on a page from the logbook provided to them by the library. ]

To Whom It May Concern,

Greetings. For those whom I have not yet been introduced to, my name is Mrs. Mina Harker. I understand that we have all been brought here recently, from many different places, times, and worlds. Speaking for myself, this has been a distressing series of events, and I have no doubt it has been for others as well.

That said, I believe that the best way to overcome such hardship is to find useful means of employment. I keep a diary, in which I have recorded many of my experiences and observations since arriving here. Perhaps there are others here who have done similarly. I plan to type up some of my relevant notes into a readable manuscript, and I would be very willing to do the same for others. If we can compile our findings into one document, I believe this could assist all of us in discovering more about why we are here, the nature of this place, how we may accomplish a return to our homes, &tc. Perhaps together we can learn what individually we would not be able to.

If there is already such an endeavour underway, please consider this my offer of assistance.

Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mina Harker
