Character Background
• History:
Pre-ARR
Nara'a Sunvara was born in the Wellwick Wood, on the border of Thanalan and the Black Shroud. He and his tribe hunted and gathered, as miqo'te do, and life was relatively quiet. Nara'a (named as such since he was the first son of Nara Sunvara) had an unusual talent for magic. His mother did not entirely approve, preferring her eldest son practice with a bow rather than a staff, but quietly Nara'a kept his studies up. Besides, he'd always been a terrible shot.
Eventually this, plus the natural tendency for male Keepers of the Moon (his particular subspecies of miqo'te) to wander, escalated into a full blown argument between him and his mother. The end result was him apologizing for being so willful, but the damage was already done. He left his tribe on cool terms, leaving behind his mother, brother, and five sisters along with the rest of their small tribe to study in Ul'dah, home of the Thaumaturge's Guild in the hopes of developing his gifts further.

• Core Relationships:
+ The Scions: Both individually and collectively, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn have been some of the greatest allies a person could ask for. It doesn't matter what happens or who they face, they face it all together and don't abandon each other. Even when separated by literal worlds, they never gave up on each other and they never let anything get in the way of their support.
The Scions have been an organization that has given Nara'a a home - even if their locations changed, the people still remained strong, only growing their circle even after betrayals and slaughters. The group has remained open to newcomers who have something to offer, and they keep helping people even when their help is not always appreciated. This has given Nara'a further ideals to live by, aside from his own.
+ Haurchefaunt Greystone: Despite it being years, the Warrior of Light still carries a flame for the man who took him and the other Scions in during their time of direst need. Without his support, there may not ever have been Scions again. His courage and dedication is an inspiring example to Nara'a today - and his death made all the more bitter because of it.
+ The People: Whether it's those of Eorzea or the First, the 'common people' that Nara'a encounters continue to be an inspiration to him. He's not all that dissuaded by the more rotten ones, as there are five good people he's encountered for every one terrible one. Most people who seem awful tend to have their own problems going on, and he understands that. He's helped plenty of people get over prejudices or pull their heads out of their own asses so that they can function in society and with each other. He’s known as a hero to people and while this can sometimes hinder relationships - either because of hero-worship or because people are skeptical of a ‘hero’ - largely he’s pulled it off and been able to pull people together to overcome great odds.
+/- Ascians: Largely negative, the Ascians have been a thorn in his side for years. That’s changed in recent years, however - Elidibus and Emet-Selch revealed great truths about the world(s) and his own place in it. He’s come to understand why they did what they did, even if he can’t condone it on any level at all. On the other hand, Fandaniel attempted an apocalypse and nearly succeeded - so recent years haven’t totally changed his opinion on Ascians in general.
- Zenos: While he appreciates Zenos helping to save the universe recently, Zenos largely has been another huge thorn in Nara’a’s side. Slaughtering people in front of him, caring nothing but for his own ‘hunt’, obsessively stalking after him, body-snatching him… the (ex-)prince has been nothing but awful despite his frequent attempts to call him his ‘friend’. Nara’a wants none of what Zenos is offering to him, and he doesn’t want to deal with the man anymore. Fortunately it seems like he might not have to anymore… probably.
- Family: While not completely awful, Nara’a doesn’t really get along with his family in general. The oldest son in a society that sees men as ‘extra’ combined with taunting over his lack of hunting ability and his ‘obsession’ with thaumaturgy hasn’t left him with very warm feelings towards his biological family. He left the Wellwick Wood as soon as he could manage, and while he writes to his family sometimes he never really receives any responses. That’s fine - he just wants them to know he’s alive.
Character Personality Through Key Moments
(2+) Positive Experiences:
+ First Magic: While seemingly small, this first experience with magic (nearly searing his eyebrows off) was the start of something great - his boundless curiosity starting to kick in from a young age. The fact that it didn’t go so well didn’t matter - he’d found what he knew to be his calling in life and decided to stick to it. This was the biggest step of his life, the one that led to the next step, and the next, and the next…
+ Fighting Zenos: No, not that time. Or that one. The time at the end of the universe where he and Zenos faced off in a knock-down all-out brawl. There were no stakes other than his pride as an adventurer - and while Nara’a is not a person who naturally goes for violence he also doesn’t shy away from it. Zenos wasn’t wrong - he lives for the thrill of adventure, dancing closer and closer to the edge of the knife, wondering when he’ll be satisfied… but as long as there’s adventure, he’s up for it.
(2+) Negative Experiences:
- Haurchefaunt’s Death: He got overconfident. He didn’t look over his shoulder. And then, in an instant, one of his greatest friends was simply… gone, having protected Nara’a and given his life in exchange. Despite the knight’s insistence that a smile better suits a hero, true grief had never really been in his life until that day - the slaughter at the Waking Sands had been too sudden and impersonal, leading to more shock than anything else. But Haurchefaunt’s death took time to settle in - and the dawning horror of losing someone galvanized him to try to not lose anyone else. This led to a difficulty in letting people in and a need to always play the hero, to prevent grief from touching others wherever possible.
- Body-Snatching: Maybe because it’s so recent, but the horror of being so easily ejected from his own body still weighs on Nara’a’s mind. He was kidnapped, used and experimented on to fulfill the whims of madmen. The most horrifying part of it all was when Zenos in his body attempted to attack his friends. Betrayal is one of the worst sins that he can imagine, and to have his friends think that he betrayed them is something that’s almost too painful to bear.
Deer Country Attributes
• Canon Powers: Red Mage, Reaper, and Paladin job actions.
In addition, Nara'a possesses the Echo, a powerful ability that both protects him from being 'tempered' or mentally influenced by gods as well as allows him to see the past of another. This ability is not triggered by his own doing, but seems to occur 'randomly' (aka when plot relevant).
He can breathe underwater and swim very well, thanks to a Kojin blessing.
Also as a miqo'te he has slightly better hearing and eyesight than the average hyur (human). His fingers also end in short claws which he can use in a fight (though he tends not to).
• Blood Type: Coldblood
• Omen: A small lesser panda
• Blessed Day: October 30
• Patron Pthumerian: Cloverfield
• Blood Power Manifestation: As his canon powers will be more prominent, Nara’a will not be able to do too much with his blood powers. Most of what he will be able to do is to conjure small to medium amounts of ice, fire, and electricity. This will be largely uncontrollable until such time as he can spend more focus on these powers - but they will never be as useful as his canon powers.
